National Get Caught Reading Month

Welcome back everyone! We’re halfway through National Get Caught Reading Month. This is a month where bookworms literally strive to get caught reading in places like a bookstore, on the subway, in a cafe, or in line for coffee. Like many of you, I would love to celebrate this month because it would mean our world is back to normal; It would mean we could be out and about trying to get caught reading without a thought of Covid-19 or social distancing. Unfortunately, neither of those things seems to be going away anytime soon, so we’ll have to adjust how we celebrate this month. And for that, I have a couple ideas.

For those at home…

If you’re stuck at home and you’ve binged everything on Netflix, Hulu, and all the other streaming services, and you need a break, grab a book. Instead of your parents, significant other, or sibling walking in on you playing on your Xbox for the eleventh hour, let them find you reading a book. Instead of making another Tik Tok about booping your dog’s nose or miming another comedy sketch, pick up a dang book—although I do really love those, so keep making them! 🙂 So, instead of getting caught watching TV, playing on your game system, or falling down a Tik Tok rabbit hole, get caught reading!

For those at work…

For you poor unfortunate souls who have to work in this crazy time, it’s going to be a little harder for you to get caught reading because you’re practicing social distancing in the workplace; However, it doesn’t mean you can’t get caught reading in your car when you and your colleagues are on your lunch break and you’re waving at each other from your cars.

For our heroes on the front lines…

For all of our heroes who are on the front lines of Covid-19 in hospitals and clinics, for all our military and police officers keeping order, and to all who are battling every day to keep up safe, thank you! You deserve a nap! We’d love for you to celebrate with us and get caught reading, but if you need a nap, take one. If you need to sit for five minutes and eat a candy bar, do it! From all of us, thank you!

For those who want to change it up…

Since it’s a little difficult to celebrate Get Caught Reading Month, perhaps we can modify it a little (like everything else right now) and celebrate Get Caught Up On Reading Month. Instead of getting caught reading, let’s get caught up on our reading. We all have a to-read pile, so let’s start checking off the list. Y’all know already that I’m a big advocate for getting to your to-read pile, so go on ahead and do it. Life is too short to put off reading a good book.

I hope y’all will celebrate this month of reading with me, but most of all, I just want y’all to be safe and healthy. If you can though, grab some coffee, a book, and a cozy place to read today. Join us next Wednesday where we’ll talk about exciting new releases.

Happy reading, friends!

Marissa
