Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is staying calm and healthy amid the Coronavirus scare in our country and around the world! As we are all worried about what the future holds, it seems to me a good time to celebrate the past and all the things and people who have made you who you are today. This coming Saturday, March 14 is National Write Your Story Day; It’s a day to write about an event, a person, a pet, or all of those things that have shaped you. You can write about the good, the bad, the ugly, the silly, and stupid. Your writing doesn’t have to be pretty, or precise; It can be messy and full of typos. It doesn’t really matter.
What matters is putting your heart into it. It’s about recognition. It’s about looking at your past and saying, “[fill in the blank] really changed me,” or “[fill in the blank] made me who I am.” National Write Your Story Day is about saying, “For better or worse, this is who I am, and that’s okay.” You don’t have to declare it to the world on social media or anyone really. You can write your story just for yourself. Maybe you can share your story with a friend or even a complete stranger. It doesn’t matter what you write or who you share it with, what matters is that this day is for you to write your truth (whatever it is).
Since sharing your truth can be a bit scary, let me go first and maybe we can all find some solace in the fact that we’ve all got stuff, we’ve all got baggage, and sometimes life is a beautiful mess. Here we go: my truth today is that I’m ready for the next stage of my life to begin. My schooling is almost over. I’m about to start a new career. I’m ready for my husband and I to settle down and put down roots. I don’t want to just survive; I want to thrive.
I hope you’re encouraged today to write your truth this Saturday, March 14. Whether you’re writing for yourself or writing to share with others, I urge you to write the truth. Don’t avoid it or look the other way. Be vulnerable. Recognize the past behind you. Take a deep breath, exhale, and look ahead because the future is bright and waiting for you.
Before I end today’s blog, I wanted to thank everyone who participated in our survey! With the help of your feedback, I want to announce that the Wilde About Books blog will now be posted every week on Wednesday afternoon. In addition to our weekly blog, we have bigger and better things coming your way in the not too distant future, so stay tuned. Thank you all for your continued support and, as always, happy reading!
